Product Description
The PBN Audio Montana Custom Shop DD 12 was a collaboration between Peter Noerbaek of PBN Audio, Dean Rivera (a 25 Year Veteran of JBL), Cary Audio Design and “The Show”. It was in association with New world Multimedia Entertainment. The DD 12’s were debuted at the 2012 CES “The Show” in Las Vegas for the Paul Stookey concert (of Peter, Paul and Mary fame). The sound was excellent!
A pair of speakers like these are hard to believe. Even on a basic system, these speakers are beyond almost any extreme high end speaker I have heard. Even in a large room, they will blow your doors off. The only way to truly understand these are to hear them. The speaker is very neutral to source, fast, with great bass and has incredible vocals.
The Horn lens is custom made for the DD12 and is fitted with a JBL 2435 HPL Beryllium compression driver. The woofers are fitted with Neodymium magnets in place of the more common ferrite magnet structures. They were custom designed and made for PBN audio by dB design Dean Rivera from JBL.
To produce this speaker again would be far in excess of the original retail price of $25,000. The cabinet construction was extremely complex, expensive and time consuming to produce. The material costs alone have gone up considerably.
A transmission lines low end is determined by its length. This line is 136” long which is 1/4 the wavelength at 25 Hz. The Low end extension is a great deal dependent on the room and its placement in the room. The DD 12 is a Dual 12 inch woofer with 80 x 60 Horn Transmission Line design.
These are high sensitivity speakers which can play very loud even with small tube amps. They can impresivly still handle up to 450 watts each. They have a Frequency Response of 35Hz to 16kHz -6db. The Impedance is 6 Ohm. They have a standard 5 way posts. The dimensions are 18 1/4”W x 33 3/8”D x 64”H and weigh 414 pounds each. They were made in late 2011 and the efficiency is 94 dB.
